Our public education system prioritizes "core" subjects while sacrificing survival courses such as personal finance. I launched the virtual Southeastern Pennsylvania Investment Conference (SEPAIC) to promote financial literacy among high school students. My team and I invited speakers from various fields, including business, finance, management, and accounting, to share their insights into their careers and experiences. Using Zoom, we opened sessions at my high school and the surrounding school districts. Speakers usually gave a twenty-minute presentation, followed by a question period during which the guests and students could interact. Watching the curiosity of my peers pour into the tiny chat box showed me that students only needed the opportunity to increase their financial literacy. In an audience exit poll, we asked a few questions, including whether they were interested in business as a future career path. With a quarter of submissions returned with an answer of "no," I realized that the conferences were also reaching a broader audience than just dedicated business majors. While it wasn't much, that extra 25% of ears meant that those 30 students would approach their futures with greater financial responsibility, contributing to the fulfillment of SEPAIC's mission. Through SEPAIC, I discovered the importance of effective management and long-term planning with organized responsibilities, which has resulted in success. However, to take my next step, I want to journey to NYU, a hub of diverse education and home to the Stern School of Business. At the heart of New York City's melting pot, NYU provides numerous real-world opportunities both within and outside the school. In particular, classes like Developing Managerial Skills teach essential skills—such as self-awareness, group communication, and effective team-building—while other courses, like Growth Strategy and Management, offer techniques to advance an idea into a viable enterprise. With my ambitions of helping those around me, small endeavors like SEPAIC would be greatly magnified with the Stern curriculum. Outside of the classroom, NYU offers an array of services, with he immediate standout being the NYU Management and Consulting Group. To educate students on consulting, the organization holds workshops, gives mentorships, and participates in case competitions. Above all, this real-world experience can improve students' management skills while allowing them to interact with professionals in the field. In bridging the academic and professional gap, this group serves as a microcosm of NYU's educational experience. 我們的公共教育系統優先考慮“核心”科目,不惜割捨像個人財務這樣的生存課程。為了普及高中學生理財認知,我發起了線上“賓州東南地區投資會議”,以我為首的團隊成員邀請來自商務、金融、管理和會計等領域的演講者就其職業經驗各抒己見。藉助“聚焦”視頻渠道,我們為本校以及附近學區開設了多個場次,每位演講者通常先闡述20分鐘,接下來直入提問環節,以此推進嘉賓與學生的互動。 同學們在好奇心的驅使下紛紛湧入我屏幕上聊天窗口前,說明他們渴望獲取理財知識。在與會者投票民意調查中,我們提出幾個問題,其中包括徵詢將來是否走上商科之路,結果四分之一選擇“不”,我意識到這次會議吸引了不少非商科專業的人士,雖然數量不多,但額外25%的聽眾意味着30名學生未來在財務上會有更多擔當,為完成本次會議使命做出了貢獻。
通過舉辦賓州東南地區投資會議,我發現有效管理的重要性,成功歸咎於各盡其責和長遠計劃,不過欲求進一步發展,我想去紐約大學深造,它既是多元化教育中心,也是史登(意指“明星”)商學院所在地,況且又地處紐約大熔爐中心,因此能提供校內外諸多工作機會,其《培養管理技能》有的放矢地傳授變通技能——-自我意識、團隊溝通以及高效團建,而其它課程(如《增長策略與管理》)則為戰略思想引入企業經濟提供技術指南,我迫切希望能幫助身邊每個人,就像區區賓州東南地區投資會議所發揮的作用那樣,“明星”商學院恰好是我夯實基礎的地方。 紐約大學還為課外生活提供一系列服務,其中最引人注目的便是它的管理顧問集團,為了培養學生諮詢能力,該機構舉辦講習班,提供專門指導,並開展案例競賽。總而言之,這種實際錘鍊不僅可以增強學生的管理才幹,同時還讓學生與該領域專家進行互動,由此說來,在彌合學術和技能差距方面,管理顧問集團可謂紐約大學教育的縮影,相信經過理論與實踐的薰陶,我有能力履行使命去幫助他人。
