    The first idea was not our own. Adam

    But the first idea was not to shape the clouds

    In imitation. The clouds preceded us.

    There was a muddy centre before we breathed.

    There was a myth before the myth began,

    Venerable and articulate and complete.

    From this the poem springs: that we live in a place

    That is not our own and, much more, not ourselves

    And hard it is in spite of blazoned days.

    We are the mimics. Clouds are pedagogues.

    The air is not a mirror but bare board,

    Coulisse bright-dark, tragic chiaroscuro

    And comic color of the rose, in which

    Abysmal instruments make sounds like pips

    Of the sweeping meanings that we add to them.

            最初的观念并非我们自己独有。亚当

            是伊甸园自我意识之父

            夏娃让空气变成了镜子。

            甚至她的儿女。他们发现

            天堂如同玻璃杯；第二个尘世；

            他们从尘世本身找出一块绿地——

            一种闪亮青翠的栖息生物。

            但最初的观念却不是去塑造云朵

            群起效尤。天幕云朵形成在我们之前。

            洪荒宇宙诞生在人类之前。

            天方夜谭久存在神话之前，

            庄重、清晰而又完美。

            诗歌应时而起：我们生活的地方

            既不属于个体，更没归为大家

            依旧难以成为自己，纵使喜庆的日子。

            我们是效仿者。云朵是教导员。

            空气不是镜子而是什么也没有的黑板，

            舞台侧面背景的光影效果、悲剧的明暗对比

            还有玫瑰的滑稽色彩，其中

            质量低劣的乐器发出尖叫声

            我们赋予的广泛寓意非同凡响。

【注】窑城是1752—1753年间由英国教友会成员神慈·窑主(John Potts)所建立，其命运与钢铁工业息息相关，生产的钢材曾用于巴拿马运河和金门大桥。随着重工业日益衰败，窑城目前已转型发展成为工业化生产农副产品和乳制品的中心。蜚声中国、号称小常春藤的美高十校联盟之一——小山学校(The Hill School/Ten Schools Admissions Organization)离市中心很近，美国前总统川普的两个儿子、现任宾州州长天真·狼(Tom Wolf)等均毕业于此。

古窑城历史街区位于窑城高街/大街中央商务区和周边的住宅区，包括蓝领公寓楼和政商名流庄园，多以胜利女王晚期、哥特式复兴、联邦式、意大利式等建筑风格。

以下大多是窑城大街载入《国家史迹名录》(Natl. Register of Historic Places)的建筑物。
