手机能传信息，互联网可通思想，但客居美国的各族同胞，仍偏爱以家庭聚会的传统方式活络感情。节假日里，邀友长叙或登门做客——男士们面对面狂吹海侃，女士们心贴心畅抒己见，孩儿们肩并肩撒欢尽兴——情感迸发得自然真切，友谊交融得深厚实在。这是手机与网络无法替代的直观互动。无论把家庭聚会视为巩固人文的纽带，还是发展友情的平台，两种看法都不过分。 一年四季，除了官方公认的阳历新年、国殇节、独立节、劳工节、感恩节、圣诞节，民间流行的春节、元宵、端午、中秋，也被旅居海外的炎黄子孙大加推崇。每逢这些日子，家庭聚会此起彼伏。夏季来临，聚会更从室内挪到室外——野炊、水上派对、露营、漂流，形式层出不穷。承蒙朋友立勇和晓丽夫妇厚意，我们六家20多口老中青少，浩浩荡荡涌进枫林游泳俱乐部。四个不同深度的露天泳池，专为社区居民消暑清凉。烧烤、戏水、攀谈，成为这次水上派对永恒的主题。 那天下午，我坐在池边树荫下的折叠椅里，看大人围着烤炉翻动鸡翅，看孩子们从滑梯顶端尖叫着滑入水中。水花溅起的时候，阳光正好穿过，像瞬间的碎钻。一个孩子从水里钻出来，把湿漉漉的脸转向我，咧嘴笑了。那一瞬间，我忽然意识到，这样的时刻不需要网络信号，不需要表情包——只需要一张烤架、一池碧水，和一群愿意把时间拿出来共享的人。我们所处的时代，从不缺少连接的工具。但真正能让人卸下防备、触到彼此温度的，还是这些面对面坐在一起、被同一阵风吹过的午后。那种在彼此身旁、被同一阵风同时吹拂的在场感，像一种可触的质地，落定在皮肤上，比任何Wi-Fi信号都更接近真实。烧烤架上的烟还在升，游泳池里的浪还在翻，而我们坐在一起的这一整个下午，正在以不可撤回的方式，缓慢地写着那些不会被存储、也不会被转发的记忆。它们更像是我们自己给自己发出的讯号——在深水里相遇，在沉默中确认：我们还在这里，我们还在彼此的身旁。  Pool Party (水上派对 07-22-2012)
