“妈妈，”娃儿开门见山，“你喜欢傻瓜(Dummy)还是笨蛋(Idiot)？”我知道他又在寻开心，这种玩笑大人觉得无聊，可在九岁的娃儿面前却相当有趣。类似的二选一还有“王八还是乌龟”，反正都不是什么好听的东西。今天我不同往常，借着话头说出另一种意义上的“傻”和“笨”——在中国，人们信奉“大智若愚”，情商高的人心智内秀而不露锋芒，表面上像个平庸的傻瓜，其实不是不知道，只是不炫耀。 “可在美国，”娃儿不等我说完，“傻瓜就是傻瓜，笨蛋就是笨蛋。”对于他这样一个在美国长大的娃儿，从课堂到将来的职场，开放活跃的环境无不给他阳光向上、单纯率性的土壤，学校又格外重视能言善辩和彰显个人才能。于是在他幼小的心里，人可以谦虚谨慎，但不可以大智若愚。我看着他理直气壮的样子，忽然觉得这代人与我们之间隔着的，不只是太平洋，还有两种关于“聪明”的理解方式。我们从小被教着藏起自己的锋芒，他们却从小被教着亮出它——不是不谦逊，是把“诚实”看得比“含蓄”更重。那一个“就是”里，有一种不肯打折的直率，让我忽然有点羡慕。我不知道他长大以后还会不会这么斩钉截铁，可此刻他眼里的光，让我想起自己也曾有过的那种、不必为自己辩解就相信对的时刻。但愿他能在“大智若愚”和“傻瓜就是傻瓜”之间，找到一条属于自己的路——既不急于收敛，也不盲目张扬，而是知道什么时候该开口，什么时候该把话留给时间。  Silly Kids (搞怪 01-21-2012)
