桑迪飓风在万圣节前两天突袭美东，道路中断，电力通讯瘫痪——连默克员工联邦信贷联盟的网络和提款系统都失灵了一周，让我体会什么叫“叫天天不应，叫地地不灵”。出不了门倒不打紧，忙碌一年的项目被接连枪毙，正好借机歇息；上不了网也无妨，眼不见大选驴象争权，心不烦；取不了现钞，便拿信用卡当令箭，倒也撑得过去。可内政外交刻不容缓——家长会、义工服务、清理断树、检修下水、扫除满院残枝，件件十万火急。幸好信用卡公司豁免灾区利息与逾期罚款，人间温情让我领悟到爱的力量。 宾夕法尼亚“山林”州一年一度的万圣节讨糖传统已延续60年，却被桑迪搅得热闹不再。学区停电停课，孩子们索性把“停课还是请客”挂在嘴边——只要不上学，乐不可支。新买的“吸血鬼”套装成了摆设，娃儿勉强试穿照了张相，总算没辜负我一片心意。错后两天，全校举办了个小型万圣节联欢，穿什么已不重要，“酒”逢知己，人生几何。 希望明年万圣节，孩子们能再次乔装打扮，挨门逐户讨糖，自由自在地“捣蛋还是请客”。我站在窗前，看娃儿把那套“吸血鬼”斗篷叠好收进抽屉。窗外街道恢复了日常的安静，落叶还堆在路边等着被打包运走。桑迪已经过去，可它留下的，不是破坏，而是暂停。那几天没有电、没有网、没有自动提款机的日子，像是从日历上被硬生生撕下来的一页——不属于任何正常的秩序，却意外地提供了一段喘息的时间。我们并排坐在沙发上，用一台备用收音机听着关于风暴的报道，突然觉得，这样的夜晚可能不会再有第二次了。而那个被错过的、被替代的万圣节，也会在记忆中被不断修改——直到最后，留下的不再是缺憾，而是某个独特年份里，一个“没有讨糖却仍然被记住”的节日。我暗暗许愿，明年的这时，他能够重新穿上那身斗篷，敲响第一户人家的门。  4th Grade Class @ Montgomery ES
