每年感恩節前，蒙哥馬利“巨人山”小學都會舉行“美國教育周”——開門教學，學生或下鄉接觸自然，或進駐博物館挖掘知識；家長也被請進教室，觀摩課堂，增進家校溝通。今年四年級以“太陽·月亮·星星”為主題，在北賓夕法尼亞“山林”高中天文館開課——直觀模擬行星軌道，實物講解宇宙奧秘，雖已多次接觸，但將恆星、衛星、流星作為專題尚屬首次。娃兒攤開作業：夏季近日點的太陽最紅，冬季遠日點的地球最藍，深秋月光明淨，星斗清亮。 周四上午，我旁聽兩堂語文課。第一節課上，帕爾瑪“采草人”(Permar)老師讓學生們先完成詞彙練習，再修改敘事作文，做完的給火雞畫肉垂——她自己則一對一輔導拼寫落後生。課間短暫，只能伸伸胳膊、做幾個俯臥撐。第二節課是速讀複述：學生依次到老師跟前，一分鐘讀完《挑戰者號航天飛機》選段，再一分鐘複述內容——讀速、準確性、理解力同步考核。茶點提前了10分鐘，學生們速戰速決。剩餘課時，老師分享了薩拉·黑爾“公主·首領”(Sarah Hale)的故事——她為讓感恩節成為全國性節日，耗盡38年，遊說四任總統——以此鼓勵學生們為理想而寫。 我即興分享感受：感恩節並非中國的傳統節日，但對客居美國的華人同胞來說，它早已成為一個值得尊重的日子。我們得其古意，取其精髓——感恩這片土地賜予的自由，也感恩它容許我們以各自的方式，繼續追問生活的意義。我們坐在課桌前，不只是為了完成眼前的功課，而是為了有朝一日，能走進那些還沒有課桌的地方。無論身在何處，我們都有責任去理解自己與他者之間的那根紐帶，並在理解的基礎上，建立新的聯繫。而那張課桌，不只是我們此刻安坐的位置，更是我們將要去到的地方的起跑線。我們終將走出教室，走進尚未被寫下的篇章里——願大家帶走的，不只是知識，還有傾聽的耐心、行動的勇氣，以及看見他人目光的能力。而當我們走進那些還沒有課桌的地方時，願我們不僅帶去答案，也帶去可以被回答的問題。  4th-Grade Word Usage (小學四年級詞彙慣用法 11-02-2012)
