每年感恩节前，蒙哥马利“巨人山”小学都会举行“美国教育周”——开门教学，学生或下乡接触自然，或进驻博物馆挖掘知识；家长也被请进教室，观摩课堂，增进家校沟通。今年四年级以“太阳·月亮·星星”为主题，在北宾夕法尼亚“山林”高中天文馆开课——直观模拟行星轨道，实物讲解宇宙奥秘，虽已多次接触，但将恒星、卫星、流星作为专题尚属首次。娃儿摊开作业：夏季近日点的太阳最红，冬季远日点的地球最蓝，深秋月光明净，星斗清亮。 周四上午，我旁听两堂语文课。第一节课上，帕尔玛“采草人”(Permar)老师让学生们先完成词汇练习，再修改叙事作文，做完的给火鸡画肉垂——她自己则一对一辅导拼写落后生。课间短暂，只能伸伸胳膊、做几个俯卧撑。第二节课是速读复述：学生依次到老师跟前，一分钟读完《挑战者号航天飞机》选段，再一分钟复述内容——读速、准确性、理解力同步考核。茶点提前了10分钟，学生们速战速决。剩余课时，老师分享了萨拉·黑尔“公主·首领”(Sarah Hale)的故事——她为让感恩节成为全国性节日，耗尽38年，游说四任总统——以此鼓励学生们为理想而写。 我即兴分享感受：感恩节并非中国的传统节日，但对客居美国的华人同胞来说，它早已成为一个值得尊重的日子。我们得其古意，取其精髓——感恩这片土地赐予的自由，也感恩它容许我们以各自的方式，继续追问生活的意义。我们坐在课桌前，不只是为了完成眼前的功课，而是为了有朝一日，能走进那些还没有课桌的地方。无论身在何处，我们都有责任去理解自己与他者之间的那根纽带，并在理解的基础上，建立新的联系。而那张课桌，不只是我们此刻安坐的位置，更是我们将要去到的地方的起跑线。我们终将走出教室，走进尚未被写下的篇章里——愿大家带走的，不只是知识，还有倾听的耐心、行动的勇气，以及看见他人目光的能力。而当我们走进那些还没有课桌的地方时，愿我们不仅带去答案，也带去可以被回答的问题。  4th-Grade Word Usage (小学四年级词汇惯用法 11-02-2012)
