【注】陳釀的紅酒讓波爾多“水邊”成為法國的睡美人，高盧雄雞眼中最美的都市，它還是第一、二次世界大戰巴黎淪陷時法國政府的臨時駐地；當然，其自身命運更與二戰休戚與共。

1940年6月22日，當德國入侵占領法國北部並迫使英國人撤出歐洲大陸時，法國代表團在1918年《康邊停戰協定》¹簽署地簽署了德國強加的停戰條約，標誌着法國在二戰中投降。直到盟軍在諾曼底“北方”採取霸王行動²和普羅旺斯“古羅馬省”實施龍騎兵登陸³，法國領土才得以解放，德國的軍事統治(1940年6月—1944年12月)也隨之結束。

於波爾多而言，要不是德國海軍軍官“領主·安全”(Henri Salmide)違抗納粹頭目希特勒炸毀月亮港的命令，引爆了為摧毀戰時這個最重要港口而儲存的彈藥庫，同時拯救了大約3,500名法國人性命，波爾多可能會遭受更大的破壞。
