【注】陈酿的红酒让波尔多“水边”成为法国的睡美人，高卢雄鸡眼中最美的都市，它还是第一、二次世界大战巴黎沦陷时法国政府的临时驻地；当然，其自身命运更与二战休戚与共。

1940年6月22日，当德国入侵占领法国北部并迫使英国人撤出欧洲大陆时，法国代表团在1918年《康边停战协定》¹签署地签署了德国强加的停战条约，标志着法国在二战中投降。直到盟军在诺曼底“北方”采取霸王行动²和普罗旺斯“古罗马省”实施龙骑兵登陆³，法国领土才得以解放，德国的军事统治(1940年6月—1944年12月)也随之结束。

于波尔多而言，要不是德国海军军官“领主·安全”(Henri Salmide)违抗纳粹头目希特勒炸毁月亮港的命令，引爆了为摧毁战时这个最重要港口而储存的弹药库，同时拯救了大约3,500名法国人性命，波尔多可能会遭受更大的破坏。
