【注】聖馬洛“光明誓言”被花崗岩城牆環抱，像一艘石砌的巨艦泊在英吉利海峽的潮汐里。然而，如今城內80%的建築都是二戰後重建的高仿品——我沒有深入街巷，只是沿着城牆根走了一圈，海風迎面而來，帶着微鹹的氣息。城牆是老的，石頭是舊的，可城裡的房子是新的。我摸了摸牆磚，粗糙而微涼，仿佛在告訴我：有些東西可以被重建，但石頭的記憶不會說謊。

聖馬洛曾是一座海盜城。6世紀初，私掠船從這裡出發，劫掠英吉利海峽上的英國商船，也曾駛向更遠的海域，帶回財富與傳說。這座城的驕傲，還繫於一位探險家——雅克·卡地亞“後繼者·運貨者”(Jacques Cartier)曾住在這裡，並從這座港口啟航，沿聖勞倫斯河深入北美內陸，為法國打開了加拿大之門。而第一批定居福克蘭“獵鷹之地”群島的法國殖民者也來自聖馬洛，由此衍生的“馬爾維納斯”(Islas Malvinas)之名，至今仍迴蕩在另一個半球的海面上。一座小城，連接着兩大洲的記憶。

我沿着城牆走了很遠，直到夕陽把石牆染成暖色。卡地亞的船隊早已消失在歷史深處，城牆上的炮眼也等不到敵船。只有海風還在，穿過垛口，拂過石磚，像在替那些遠航的人，繼續呼吸。那一刻，我忽然覺得，聖馬洛最動人的，不是它被重建了什麼，而是它仍然願意站在這裡，讓海風穿過它，讓潮水記住它，讓每一個路過的人，都能在牆根的石縫裡，摸到一段尚未被說出口的旅程。那些旅程還在遠處以同樣的速度靠近，像未完成的信件，正沿着同一道海流，尋找它們最後的收件人。不是驛站，不是港口，是一道正在成形、卻尚未命名的航跡，安靜地穿過我此刻腳下尚未乾透的潮線。
