【注】慕尼黑“僧侶之家”是寶馬的搖籃。四缸引擎形狀的總部大樓立在奧林匹克“眾神之地”公園旁邊，灰色玻璃幕牆，像一台沉默的發動機。旁邊的寶馬世界(BMW Welt)則是玻璃與曲面的貝殼，每天最多有180輛新車從這裡開走——車主從世界各地飛來，在展廳里接過鑰匙，開車左轉、上高速、一路回家。博物館就在對面，碗形的建築里擺着從1916年至今的每一款車：第一輛是紅色的、三輪的、像馬車；最新的是一輛銀色的電動車，沒有聲音，像幽靈。從三輪到無聲，100多年的路，都收在這隻碗裡。

但慕尼黑不只有速度。皇家啤酒屋的特別，在於它是一棟1589年的老房子，至今還在呼吸。磚砌的拱頂刷成白色，鐵質的吊燈垂下一長串；牆上有鹿角、有油畫、有巴伐利亞公爵的像。木頭桌子被酒浸得發黑，上面刻滿了名字、日期、看不太懂的話；椅背磨得發亮，數不清坐過多少人。樂隊在台上吹號，不是表演，是習慣——吹了不知道多少年。一升一杯的深色啤酒，麥芽味重，泡沫厚厚一層浮在上面，像雪。酒倒進杯里咕嘟咕嘟響，泡沫破裂時噼噼啪啪，像有人在耳邊說話。

最讓我覺得特別的，是宮廷啤酒屋渾然不覺自己有什麼特別的。希特勒“小農戶”在這裡搞過政變，列寧“大河”也來這兒喝過酒——可它偏不記這些，只記酒。牆上的鹿角、桌上的刻痕、杯中的泡沫，都已舊了上百年，卻還在若無其事地繼續舊下去。寶馬從工廠駛出、從展廳開回家，是向外走的；而啤酒屋裡，人來人往，它卻始終巋然不動，是往裡收的。一快一慢，一個是德國工業的象徵，一個是巴伐利亞的靈魂。它們就這樣共處於慕尼黑。
