【簡介】
這首謠曲有很多種標題 ， 最廣為人知的是 Daily Growing and Bonny Boy is Young (But Growing) 。它在1792年首次由瑪利·安夫人出版。在不同的版本中它的歌詞和曲譜都有所不同。在其中一種版本中，年輕的新郎只有12歲，他在13歲時為人之父。
歌詞很有可能是根據十七世紀時，卡萊頓領主和伊麗莎白·恩絲的婚姻故事而編寫的。她比她的丈夫大了好幾歲，她的丈夫在1634年婚禮後不久去世。有學者的觀點認為，很有可能，這首謠曲產生的年代也許要向前提早到中世紀——在那個時候，兒童結婚的現象比較普遍。
關於ballad，謠曲：
ballad來源於拉丁文ballare，這個拉丁詞語的意思是“舞蹈歌曲”。它是下層民眾集體的頭口創作，具有特殊的節奏，音韻和曲調，通常是抒情的而非敘事的。這個詞進入英語後，取代了英語中原先表示舞蹈歌曲的carole。文學史家在談到ballads起源的時候指出，這種叫carole的民間舞蹈歌曲後來才發生分化，一種引入教會，成為基督教的“頌歌”（carols），一種繼續在民間流傳，演變為ballads。當時這個詞在英語中的含義與拉丁文中的含義是一致的，都是指配合舞蹈所唱的歌曲。
到了伊麗莎白一世時，它的詞義擴大到任何樣式的短篇韻文，無論是抒情的還是敘事的，可唱的還是不可唱的，宗教的還是非宗教的。當時的英語聖經中，“雅歌”就叫做“Ballet
of Ballet of Solomon”（ballet
是ballad的異體）。這種不嚴格的用法一直沿用到18世紀。1761年，詩人申斯頓為糾正這種濫用的現象，在體裁上將可唱的抒情短詩和可唱的敘事短詩分開，前者稱為song（歌），後者稱為ballad（謠曲）。這種劃分得到了社會的公認。
