First of all, it's how you dress 首先是衣着 每當有人在 Yahoo 和 Quora (知乎的祖爺爺) 上問,我帶着商業計劃書,要見投資人了,應該穿成什麼樣子的時候 紐約客的典型回答是: “Well, you don't have to wear business formal, but feel free to wear a suit, or business pants + button-down shirt" - A New York based VC "好吧,你一般不用穿的很正式,但如果想穿個西裝也沒人會笑你。 ” - 某紐約風投 “It's New York. You can't afford to be sloppy. No one will take you seriously if you dress like Mark Zuckerberg - unless you ARE Mark Zuckergerg" - Celebrity Blogger “這裡是紐約喂! 沒人會理你的如果你穿的像Mark Zuckerberg (注: facebook 創始人&CEO) - 除非你就是Mark Zuckerberg” - 著名博主 來自硅谷的回答則是: "You get laughed at if you wear a suit around Silicon Valley" - Stanford MBA 你在硅谷穿個西裝走一圈試試... MBA “Truth is, as long as you're wearing pants, I don't really care what you wear" - A renowed VC in SV 只要你丫穿了褲子,我才不管你穿成啥樣!- 某著名硅谷VC
Then, it's what you do "Success in NYC is less one dimensional than it is in Silicon Valley. You can be famous and successful in music, art, fashion, law, finance, and of-course in tech; whereas in SV, it's ALWAYS about tech" - A seasoned angel investor 在紐約,成功是更加多元化的,你可以在很多領域成功比如音樂,藝術,時尚,法律,金融,當然還有高科技。
“A talented musician went west coast to promote his own album. He rented an apt in Silicon Valley. Six months later he came back to New York with no CD sold, and started to write his new song in JAVA" 一個富有才華的音樂家去西海岸推廣他的專輯,他在硅谷租了個房子.....
“A google engineer visits his younger brother who's a Goldman investment banker in New York. After learning about his brother's newly founded hedge fund, he appears to be very surprised and says well, are you trying to figure out how to run a REAL start-up by trying this first?"
Lastly, Ambition and Realisim
West coast founders are typically bigger dreamers, very often at the expense of a solid, grounded, viable monetization plan"
“西海岸的創業者常常是夢想家 - 夢想是如此的大,以至於他們在勾勒這樣的願景時常常犧牲了對變現能力的思考時間” 他繼續評論到: "For the NYC founders I have met, nearly all of them have a viable business strategy involving them making money from day one. Not a lot of money. But Something."
請看以下來自紐約某名校畢業的MBA的神吐槽: "A Columbia MBA and a Stanford MBA meet at a VC-backed business plan competition in SV. The Columbia MBA passionately presents a 150 page plan including prototype design, business model, competition, monetization plan, even a DCF. He gets lukewarm feedbacks from judge."
The Stanford MBA gets on the podium, lowers his voice level to that of a whisper and says - "I'll revolutionalize what he said" .
A Stanford MBA started his own firm in Silicon Valley and hired a Columbia MBA as CFO. One day he looks outside of his window to the parking lot and suddenly gets excited" 一個斯坦福MBA在硅谷創業做了CEO,並聘請了一個哥倫比亞大學MBA做CFO。
He calls his CFO in and tells him about this new APP that the company can develop to revolutionalize parking for 2 hours."
Finally he asks his CFO, pointing to the parking lot "So there - you see what I see?". The CFO hesitates, gazing at same the parking lot and finally says "well John, I think you car just got stolen..."
