Trump's negotiation tactics
In the so call trade talks between America and China, Trump has never come up with a rational basis for his raising the import tariff. Whether it is 10% or 25%, it is all just a number he threw out, picked out from the thin air. If he think China will concede, he would just pick a higher number. He gave in return some meaningless praises like, good or friend, terms that mean nothing and cost him nothing. This is the same old tactics of the US writer, Pearl Buck. Deep down, she despise Chinese.
As far as the reasons Trump gave for bullying China, we can look at them one by one.
1, Human rights - He thinks China has no protection for human rights. Look as America, what human right does it has when there is gun violence routinely? Parents cannot expect safety for their children in school or in church. The police shot even child without provocation. 2. National security - he accused China of stealing American security information. American is infamous for listening to conversation of its allies and its opponents. The noted objects of its phone monitoring include the heads of England, Germany, France, and even Israel. It announced to the world its stolen conversation between the Saudi embassy in Turkey and Riyadh. The world should be fearful of American illegal listening of its conversation, and not the other way around. 3. Trade secrets - American industries were based on stolen trade secrets. It stole the design of machine to remove cotton seeds from England in the 18th century. It has not stopped stealing from that point onward. The truth is whenever two parties interact, they learn from each other. Only a fool does not learn continuously. 4. Trade monopoly - America arbitrarily collude with England, Australia, Canada and New Zealand not to buy from Wuawei. It bullies other allies that if they buy from Wuawei, then America will not share defense information with that country. If that is not monopoly, what is? America feels it can do anything that it accuses China of doing.
Stepping back from Trump's demand will only see him makes another demand. If the American does not want Chinese products, it will not buy from China. So, the trade surplus that China enjoys is based on the quality of its products, and is not due to any unfair advantages China enjoys. We have nothing to be ashamed of the trade surplus. We sweat with hard work. When we try to buy American products, they sent up red flag that China will steal American technology with the purchase. If American would not sell its products to China, of course, there will be a trade unbalance. It is the consequence of American decisions.
If America is serious about a trade negotiation, then let the two parties negotiation based on laws and equality, and not based on some whimsical justification came out of Trumps greedy mind.
